We asked David:

If someone wanted to follow in your footsteps, what would you want them to understand about sacrifice or service? Explain your journey, and how you learned that for yourself.

Here is what he had to say:

If someone is going into the service they need to understand that it is constant sacrifice. They have to mentally prepare for that. From the day you leave for Basic Training until the day you exit the service, it is a sacrifice. You are giving up what you know for something that can change from week to week or day to day. Sometimes you sacrifice your all, but every Veteran has sacrificed something for their country.
